A CITATION OF HABIBA ANAVOZA ADEIZA B.Sc, P.GD, M.BA, PIONEER REGISTRAR, FEDERAL UNIVERSITY LOKOJA

Habiba Anavoza Adeiza was born on Monday 31st December, 1956 to the revered family of late Pa Mamman Okikiri and Mama Asmau Ogueyi Okikiri of Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria. Habiba was nurtured with the virtues of discipline, tolerance, simplicity, humility and patience. She attended school very early in life at the period when girl-child education was not of topmost priority in the area, but as a child of an elite, the father enrolled her into school at an early age of five. She had her primary school between 1963 and 1969 in Zaria, Kaduna, and Ilorin. In 1970, she got admission to St. Clare’s Grammar School Offa in Kwara State. Here, she was mentored and modeled by distinguished teachers like Mrs. Holben, Mrs. Wait, Mr. Adefila and Mr. and Mrs. Gingreesh. She gained admission into Ahmadu Bello University, Zaira/ Abdullahi Bayero College, Kano (later renamed Bayero University Kano) and graduated with B.Sc degree in Sociology in 1979. In 1994, she obtained Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies and finally crowned it with Master Degree in Business Administration in 2000. In 1980, Habiba was posted to Ondo State for her National Youth Service Corps. She served with Ondo State Ministry of Social Welfare, Owo, where she distinguished herself as Social Welfare Officer in charge of family and marital Unit.

Upon completion of NYSC in 1981, her alma mata, Bayero University Kano recognized her hardwork, resilience and enormous potentials and employed her as Personal Officer and had a successful career progression as Assistant Registrar, Principal Assistant Registrar, Deputy Registrar and Ag. Registrar.

As a seasoned Registry Staff, Habiba worked in all the Units and Divisions of the Registry Department of Bayero University Kano. She was secretary to very functional and important Committees of the University. She was Secretary, Examination Regulations Committee, Secretary Examination Timetable Committee, Secretary, Examination Malpractices Committee, Secretary, Prizes and Awards Committee, Establishment Secretary, Secretary, University Appointments and Promotion Committee, Secretary, Committee of Deans and Directors, Secretary, University Research Committee, Secretary, Centre for Democratic Research and Training, Secretary, University Congregation, Secretary, University Council and so on.

Habiba was appointed Ag. Registrar, Bayero University Kano between August 2008 and February 2010. In this capacity, she discharged her responsibilities with utmost good faith, diligence and with strong determination. She surmounted all challenges while in office.

As Ag. Registrar, Habiba was married to her job and mandate of excellence. She hardly observed public, ceremonial holidays or even Annual Leave. These qualities endeared her to the former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and appointed her Registrar, Federal University Lokoja in 2011.

Habiba is very industrious and productive, very accountable and transparent with tremendous strength to contain and absolve all challenges of administration particularly in complex set up like Bayero University Kano and Federal University Lokoja. Her re-appointment as Registrar for another one year was the crowning success in her career. It is a vindication of all her success, evidence that her life has been the Federal University Lokoja’ success story.

Her land marks are colossal, enduring and endearing for posterity. She established virile and efficient Registry with coordinated Divisions and Units under her able superintendence; she was on the Board of Technical Committee of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB): through her intervention, she facilitated the verification of prospective and existing beneficiaries of MTN Foundation Scholarship Scheme organized by JAMB: She facilitated the selection of Federal University Lokoja as UTME/JAMB Computer Based Test (CBT) Centre: She single handedly established and nurtured Association of Nigerian University Public Administrators (ANUPA) to its present status: She is an avid supporter of work-study programme of Federal University Lokoja. She was nominated and conferred the 2016 Peace and Good Governance Award ‘as the Best Female Registrar among the Federal Institutions in Northern Nigeria’. This award was bestowed on her by Movement for Peaceful and Equitable Governance in Nigeria (MOPEGON).

It was the former President Barack Obama of the United States of America in his famous speech: “The Best is yet to Come” delivered on November 6, 2012 that said “No one who fights for this country ever has to fight for a job or a roof over their head when they come home”. For all the incredible work that you put in Federal University Lokoja, as you bow out as Pioneer Registrar, you will not fight for a job or a roof over your head, Amen.

Habiba was destined to journey through the uncharted Terrain of the administration of Federal University Lokoja.

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, with common passion and dedication, Habiba has answered the call of History and so, recounting the history of Federal University Lokoja, Habiba’s legacy would remain a mile stone in the sands of Time.

The Vice-Chancellor Ma, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, join me as I present to you this accommodating, brilliant, determined, disciplined, friendly, hardworking, loving mother, mentor, patient, simple, understanding and an excellent seasoned administrator, Habiba Anavoza Adeiza, Pioneer Registrar, Federal University Lokoja.
