Emeritus Professor Nimi Briggs, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council Buries Step-Father
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Angela Freeman Miri led some members of the University Governing Council on a condolence visit to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Emeritus Professor Nimi Dimkpa Briggs over the demise of his step-father Late Chief (Sir) Victor Stephen Youngman Harry alias Tom Big of Harry’s Town (Obuama), Kalabari Kingdom in Rivers State.
Chief Tom Big, as he was popularly known, was described as a celebrated warrior whose life has impacted many lives positively. Emeritus Professor Nimi Briggs, while also speaking at the day wake-keep, described his step-father as a veteran of peace, loving and caring. The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, who led members of the deceased’s family in singing hymns at the event, thanked God for a life well-spent of the Patriarch.
Professor Briggs, while receiving a condolence letter from the Vice-Chancellor, expressed his appreciation to the entire University community for identifying with him in his moments of grief, stressing that he was encouraged to uphold the virtues and good legacies his step-father was known for.
Some of the Council members and delegates who accompanied the Vice-Chancellor on the condolence visit include Professor Boniface G. Nworgu, Professor David Irefin, Professor Gbenga S. Ibileye, and the University Bursar, Alhassan Sheikh Ibrahim amongst other staff of the University.
Late Chief (Sir) Victor Stephen Youngman Harry died at the age of 97 and has been buried in his country home in Rivers State.
