The Management of Federal University Lokoja has organized an interfaith prayer session to mark the official opening of the male and female hostels at its main campus (permanent site, Felele) since the buildings were completed almost ten years ago, a bold move which has attracted widespread commendation from the students, parents/guardians, and members of the University community since the decision was taken.

The spiritual exercise, attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, principal officers, management staff, students' union, as well as religious leaders within the University, was organized to consecrate the buildings and seek God's blessing and protection as the students begin to move into the hostels.

It would be recalled that since the movement of the administrative and academic activities from the Adankolo Campus (now College of Health Sciences) to the Felele Campus in 2021 by the current administration, the University Management had not opened the hostel accommodation for students' use, citing general security concern and the dire need to strengthen the campus security architecture, before moving the students into the facilities, as the major reasons.

Speaking during the prayer session which took place at each of the two big hostels, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, commended the efforts of the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Yusufu Musa Abdullahi and his team for working tirelessly to ensure the timely completion of the renovation work on the buildings.

He noted that, for the hostels to be put to use after many years of completion, the University Management reached an agreement with a private firm to handle the renovation and manage the hostels for a particular period of time. Professor Akinwumi, therefore, urged the students to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations guiding the occupants to avoid any security breach, saying all precautionary measures and essential facilities have been provided to ensure a safe environment and comfortable student experience in the hostels.

Similarly, the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Yusufu Musa Abdullahi, in his remarks, thanked the University Management led by the Vice-Chancellor for the bold step geared towards ameliorating the students' plight as well as making the main campus more vibrant. He reiterated that all the necessary security measures, humanly possible, have been provided to guarantee the safety of the students and the entire area, hence the need to also commit it into the hand of God - the ultimate Protector.

As prayers were offered by the clerics from both the Christian and the Muslim communities in the University, signaling the official opening of the two hostels at the Felele Campus for the first time, the Vice-Chancellor is optimistic that this milestone would encourage other investors willing to partner with FUL in building more hostel accommodation on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model of the Public Private Partnership (PPP). Already, the University had signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for such collaborations which would go a long way to complement Management's efforts in alleviating the accommodation challenges faced by the students.
