Let me congratulate you all on your admission to our citadel of learning, the Federal University Lokoja. You must consider yourselves very lucky to gain admission into this University during the 2019/2020 admission exercise out of the many candidates that qualified having succeeded in scaling through the UTME Examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

I, hereby, welcome you to the various degree programmes you have been admitted into. As you matriculate today, I am sure that some of you will graduate in First Class Honours, others will be in Second Class Honours (Upper Division), Second Class Honours (Lower Division) and some in Third Class, while some of you may not even graduate from this University.

Whatever will be the end result of your academic career here in FUL will be dependent on how you determine to commence because “AS YOU LAY YOUR BEDS IS EXACTLY HOW YOU WILL LIE ON THEM.”

My dear children, I urge you all to look back and always remember the home you are coming from and reflect on your activities in these three or four years that you will sojourn here in search of Academic laurels that will launch you into the future. In doing this, you must always REMEMBER THE CHILDREN OF WHO YOU ARE.

In welcoming you also, let me highlight some of the forces that can get you out of this University without realizing your aims and objectives for seeking for, and gaining the admission that you are celebrating today.

i.     Involvement in Cult Activities: This is a cankerworm that has eaten very deeply into students in Higher Institutions in Nigeria. Let me warn you all that FUL has zero tolerance for CULTISM and CULT related activities.

ii.        Examination Malpractice: The University will not spare any student caught in examination malpractice.

iii.    Improper Dressing: You must all dress well at all times ensuring that females do not expose the areas of their bodies that may lead to issues of raping while males do not wear tattered clothes/jeans and untidy hair.

iv.       Obedience to all the Provisions in the Student Handbook will save you from unnecessary embarrassment.

The Student Affairs Unit will at all times be at your disposal in case you run into any problems. Feel free to contact the Dean of Students and other officers of the Unit when the need arises.

In concluding my address to you, please note that you are here in FUL for a purpose. Pursue the purpose purposefully so that at the end of your stay here, you would have allowed the University to pass through you, developing you both in CHARACTER and LEARNING.

I wish you a successful stay in FUL and also wish you what you wish yourself.
