FELELE CAMPUS SECURITY: FUL Management Visits Command Naval Drafting Office, Banda, Enlists Support

In a bid to ensure a robust synergy and mutual relationship between Federal University Lokoja (FUL) and Security Agencies in Kogi State, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi along with Members of the University Management paid a courtesy visit to the Commandant of the Command Naval Drafting, Rear Admiral M. M. Abdullahi at the Nigerian Naval Ship (NNS) Lugard at Banda.

The visit which took place at the Conference Hall of the Command Naval Base afforded the Vice-Chancellor the opportunity to felicitate with the Commandant, Rear Admiral M. M. Abdullahi who took over the mantle of leadership at the Command Naval Drafting recently.

In his interaction with the Commandant and his officers, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi highlighted the numerous developmental projects of his Administration and discussed the dire need of more security presence at the Felele Campus in preparation for full commencement of academic activities. He implored the Command to extend their surveillance and patrol around the Felele Campus in order to provide a sense of security to both Staff and Students of the University.

Speaking further, Professor Akinwumi outlined some of the programmes being run at the School of Postgraduate Studies of the University, urging the officers to take advantage of the proximity of the Institution and upgrade themselves academically.

The Vice-Chancellor, who was supported by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor M. S. Audu, informed the Naval Officers that some of the programmes in the curriculum of the PG School were carefully selected and tailored to accommodate security personnel within and around the catchment area of the University. Such programmes include Peace and Conflict Studies, Security and Strategic Studies, Leadership and Security Studies, as well as other programmes in the Humanity, Science and Social Sciences at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

While responding, the Commandant of the Command Naval Drafting, Rear Admiral M. M. Abdullahi told the Management Team that their visit was timely, saying the Vice-Chancellor’s presentation on the educational opportunities in FUL was in line with his vision in giving priority to academic development, therefore, encouraged his men to utilize the opportunities brought to their doorsteps.

He assured the University Management of his willingness to partner with the Institution in all aspects, especially in the area of security. The Commandant also enjoined the Management to come up with an MoU detailing some of the area of interest for consideration by the Command’s top Management.

The highpoint of the meeting was the presentation of plaque by Rear Admiral Abdullahi to the Vice-Chancellor as a symbol of the cordial relationship and collaboration already established between them.
