Prof. Benjamin Dauda Emerges New Dean, Faculty of Science – Read Profile

Professor Benjamin Mopah Dauda, a Professor of Polymer Science from the Department of Industrial Chemistry, Federal University Lokoja, has emerged as the Dean, Faculty of Science, following an election into the Office of the Dean which was keenly contested.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, through the Registrar, Adm Usman Suleman Obansa, had earlier approved the electoral guidelines/qualifications for the Deanship Election after the immediate past Dean of the Faculty, Professor Abdullahi Emmanuel was appointed as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) by the University Senate.

Professor Dauda is an Internal Member of the Governing Council (Senate Representative), and also the Pioneer Head of Department, Industrial Chemistry, a position he held until his recent appointment.

Prof. B. M. Dauda was born in Lokoja in 1965, where he started his primary school education. In 1972, he moved with his parents to Ilorin, where he completed his primary schooling. He obtained his O/Level certificate from Federal Government College Sokoto in 1983. Prof Dauda obtained his B.Sc. from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in the year 1988. In 1992 he was appointed as a Graduate Assistant in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Dauda obtained M.Sc. from the University of Leeds and Ph.D. from the University of Manchester.

On completion of his PhD, the University of Manchester appointed him as a Research Assistant from 2008 to 2009. He then returned to A.B.U. Zaria where he continued his teaching and research work. At different periods while in ABU Zaria, he was a visiting lecturer at KSU, NDA & the University of Abuja. He left A.B.U Zaria as a professor in 2019 to join the department of Industrial Chemistry, Federal University Lokoja.

Prof. Dauda is a specialist in Polymer Science. His research interest is in the area of polymer synthesis and industrial wastewater management. Dauda has presented seminars in the UK, USA, Israel, France and across Nigeria. He has assessed a number of academics for promotion to the professorial cadre and has been an external examiner for several MSc and PhD students.
