ONE YEAR IN OFFICE: Group Lauds Professor Akinwumi’s Giant Stride

Professor Olayemi Akinwumi has continued to receive commendations from different quarters for his giant stride within one year in office as the third and first indigenous Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL).
The Vice-Chancellor, who clocked one year in office on the 14th of February, 2022, has been applauded for his purposeful leadership and unflinching commitment to his vision of repositioning the eleven-year-old University for greatness, as many have alluded to the fact that Professor Akinwumi’s efforts have started yielding the desired results which are apparent in the number of remarkable achievements his Administration has recorded within a very short time in office.
Again, on Monday, 7th March, 2022, a group known as The Mentors Club Nigeria, a non-political association, commended the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi for achieving so much within his one year in office, maintaining that the distinguished scholar of global ranking has brought many outstanding developments to the University within a very short period. This was disclosed when a delegation from the Club paid the Vice-Chancellor a courtesy visit in his office at the Felele Campus.
The group which was led by the former Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Bello felicitated with Professor Akinwumi on his one year in office and celebrated him for the notable achievements FUL has recorded so far under his watch.
While paying glowing tributes to the sterling leadership qualities of the Vice-Chancellor, the former Speaker recounted his first personal experience with the distinguished professor of history during a class, adding that Professor Akinwumi’s unassuming personality and friendly disposition as his former teacher impacted on him positively which contributed greatly to what he has become in life.
In his address, the President of the Club, Dr Audu Simpa Siyaka who was represented by the Vice President, Mr Ibori Gabriel, stated that the Association was quite impressed with the significant progress FUL was witnessing under the visionary and pragmatic leadership of Professor Akinwumi as the Vice-Chancellor.
“Since you assumed duty as the Vice-Chancellor of this great University, you have never hidden your penchant for high-level development and quality education hence the notable achievements recorded within your short period in office.”
“It is our prayer that Sir, your tenure will continue to witness growth and development so that by the time you will be ending your tenure, your name will be written in gold as the best-achieving Vice-Chancellor of the University,” the President remarked.
Similarly, the group thanked the Vice-Chancellor for recognizing and appointing some of its eminent members in key positions in the University amongst which is the Provost, FUL College of Health Sciences, Professor Ozovehe Mike Ogirima mni, who is the Patron of the Club.
In his vote of thanks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor M. S. Audu, expressed gratitude to members of the powerful delegation for coming to felicitate with the Vice-Chancellor. Other members of the Club that came for the visit included Professor Musa Ibrahim Adeku, Associate Professor Engr Muhammed Adam, and Dr Yahaya Ogirima, amongst others.
