ONE YEAR IN OFFICE: Professor Akinwumi Bags “Uncommon Leadership” Award as NNVS Passes Vote of Confidence

The Nigerian National Volunteer Service (NNVS)/Diaspora Affairs, an organisation situated in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has bestowed on the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi an award of “Uncommon Leadership” in recognition of his “stewardship to human development and for upgrading the standard of the University” within his short period in office.

During the presentation of the award which took place on Monday, March 14, 2022 in the Vice-Chancellor’s office at the Felele Campus, the organisation equally presented a Certificate of Credence/Vote of Confidence to the Vice-Chancellor.

Addressing the gathering, Honourable Gabriel Itodo who is the State Coordinator, NNVS and SSA to the Government on Special Project, described Professor Akinwumi as a committed, passionate and focused leader whose antecedents and track record within one year in office deserved the recognition. He noted further that the student-friendly and bottom-up leadership style of Professor Akinwumi has endeared him to many while commending the Vice-Chancellor for turning the fortunes of the Institution within a short time.

Earlier, Hon. Alfa Ebune while introducing their mission highlighted some of the notable achievements of Professor Akinwumi-led Administration, noting that the Vice-Chancellor has brought hope and a great relief to the good people of Kogi State with the recent establishment of the College of Health Sciences which would give equal opportunities to applicants from within the catchment and educationally disadvantaged areas of the State.

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the organization for the recognition, stating that he had been reluctant in accepting awards, but had to make an exception for this particular one which he noted will remain indelible in his heart. He added that the award was a great motivation to him for greater exploits for the University.

The high point of the event was the decoration of the Vice-Chancellor and presentation of the award plaque as well as the Certificate of Credence/Vote of Confidence.
