The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi has reiterated his unflinching commitment to promoting academic excellence and building a world-class University that everyone will be proud of. Professor Akinwumi stated this on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 when he received the Management of the Nigerian Television Authority NTA, Lokoja led by its General Manager, Alhaji Yahaya Adams in his office.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that he was on a mission of building an enviable Institution that will fulfill the vision of its founding fathers and meet the yearnings and expectations of all. Speaking further, the renowned historian of global standing maintained that despite the myriad of challenges, including the dwindling and meager resources available at his disposal, he was poised to leave an indelible mark on the annals of the history of the eleven-year-old University that will be worthy of emulation amongst Nigerian Universities.

Professor Akinwumi said that he will do his best not to disappoint God who has given him the opportunity to serve his fatherland and those who reposed confidence in his ability to take FUL to a higher height. He assured the media agency that he was more focused and determined to reposition the citadel of learning for greatness while making the State and the founding fathers of the University proud. "I am determined to leave a legacy that many will be very proud of, even many years after my tenure as the 3rd Vice-Chancellor has ended," the VC vowed.

The Vice-Chancellor equally used the opportunity to express satisfaction with the improved infrastructure, public-private partnership, and academic excellence that heralded his second year in office which culminated in the full accreditation status earned by all the existing programmes in the Faculties of Art and Social Sciences as released by the National Universities Commission (NUC) recently.

He added that, aside from the full accreditation of programmes, his Administration has established new faculties, directorates, and programmes, while also promoting entrepreneurship education in the University. He said that his vision was for students to be self-employed and self-reliant after graduation.

During the meeting, the VC solicited stronger synergy between NTA and the University in terms of inter-institutional support that will boost the Department of Mass Communication of the University, and foster a lasting relationship between the two government institutions.

Earlier in his remarks, the General Manager of NTA Lokoja, Alhaji Yahaya Adams, lauded the mind-blowing achievements of Professor Akinwumi’s Administration within a very short time, saying the records were undeniable. He pledged to ensure a robust partnership between FUL and NTA that would project the University and the Administration to its large audience across the nation and beyond.

The NTA Lokoja boss, who described Professor Akinwumi as an academic colossus and a true example of a self-motivated and forward-minded leader, stated that he was greatly impressed with the Vice-Chancellor’s uncommon humility and sterling leadership qualities. Alhaji Adams commended the VC for his strong determination in writing his name in gold through the number of developmental projects he has brought to the University within a short period in office.

It is interesting to note that Professor Olayemi Akinwumi has continued to receive diverse support and goodwill from heads of various establishments, private individuals, groups, and institutions including reputable media agencies who have keyed into his Vision Plan and shown willingness to partner with his Administration in moving Federal University Lokoja forward.
