On Wednesday, 18th May, 2022, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi led the Management of Federal University Lokoja on courtesy visits to the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Edward Chuka Egbuka, and the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), S.I. Mafara, to aquaint them with the newly introduced postgraduate programmes run by the Institute of Governance and Development Studies of the University for the 2021/2022 Academic Session.

The visits were part of the ongoing efforts by the Professor Akinwumi’s Administration towards giving wide publicity to the new programmes as well as the multidisciplinary Institute which was established essentially to provide cutting-edge research and robust development programmes.

The Vice-Chancellor also informed the security chiefs during the meeting of the University’s plan to relocate the remaining Faculty of Science at the Adankolo Campus to Felele Campus, adding that the male and female hostels built at the Felele Campus would be put to use, once the University resumes from the ongoing nationwide strike. He, therefore, solicited their full support in terms of security coverage.

Professor Akinwumi used the opportunity to introduce the newly appointed Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the University, Lt. Col. Babafemi Sunday Mepaiyeda (Rtd), whom he said would be working closely with the heads of the security outfits for mutual collaboration.

In their separate remarks, the heads of the two security agencies expressed great delight in the postgraduate programmes, while thanking the Vice-Chancellor for honouring them by coming personally with his Management Team to intimate them with the exciting list of programmes that would further add value to their jobs/career and enhance their academic development. They promised to enroll in the programmes and also encourage their officers to take advantage of the opportunity that has been brought to their doorstep.

The highpoint of the meeting was the presentation of flyers by the Vice-Chancellor showing the various programmes as well as other guidlines on how to apply, while arrangements were made for the Director of the Institute, Professor Rotimi Ajayi to further sensitize their men at their next officers meetings.
