The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) is set to enter into a strong partnership with the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) in the provision of high-quality broadband Internet connectivity that will drive the University's ICT infrastructure towards meeting its cardinal objectives of teaching, research and community service for sustainable development.

This was disclosed today when a team of experts from NigComSat which included Engr. Babalola Kayode, Engr. Adams Mohammed, and Engr. Obamila Ekundayo made an excellent presentation at the weekly meeting of the Principal Officers Committee (POC) held in the Vice-Chancellor's Board Room.

During their elaborate presentation, the team led by Engr. Kayode noted that they were in FUL at the behest of the Management of the satellite communication agency through the effort and passionate appeal of the Vice-Chancellor in a bid to partner with the University through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the area of providing fast and high-capacity broadband penetration that would serve as a reliable backbone for the Institution while rendering other ICT-related services.

Furthermore, this far-reaching engagement would no doubt complement the efforts of the Professor Akinwumi-led Administration in ensuring that ICT drives all critical activities of the University in line with his vision plan for the University since his assumption of office.

Following the fruitful interaction, the Chairman of POC and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, directed the team of experts to interface with the staff from the FUL Directorate of ICT ably headed by the Director, Professor Sunday Eric Adewumi, who were equally present at the meeting, to further discuss and harmonize the specific needs of the University in terms of ICT, as well as conduct an overall assessment of the existing facilities and carry out an earth survey in line with best practices for optimum results.

In addition to the provision of a high-speed, cost-effective, reliable, and uninterrupted Internet connectivity that will cover the two campuses of the University, there are other impelling services that FUL stands to benefit from the proposed partnership when sealed, such as Tele-education, Tele-medicine, video conferencing, YouTube learning, precision agriculture, Direct-to-home services, security surveillance, navigation and earth station verification assessment services, amongst other exciting solutions offered by NIGCOMSAT.
