FUL Senate Honours All-Africa University Games Medalists with Scholarships, Cash Rewards

The Senate of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has applauded the brilliant performance of the students who represented the University at the 2024 All-Africa University Games and showered them with scholarships and financial rewards.
Speaking during the 87th meeting, the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Senate, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, announced that all the participating athletes would receive full scholarships for one academic session, including cash rewards for the medalists. In addition, the VC promised to induct them into the University’s Hall of Fame for making FUL proud in the competition, underscoring the Institution's commitment to both academic and sports excellence.
Making its debut at the All-Africa University Games, FUL secured three bronze medals, a remarkable achievement that placed the Institution on the medal table. Two of the medals were won in women’s doubles badminton by Blessing Adat and Mohammed Hafisat, while the third was earned in taekwondo by Atojoko Murtala Mohammed. The impressive outing and the medals won by the students reflect FUL's good standing in terms of sports development which was showcased admirably at the prestigious continental competition.
While presenting the medals to the winners on the floor of the Senate, the Vice-Chancellor expressed immense pride in their outstanding performance and accomplishments. He rallied the athletes and the broader university community with the call to "Keep the FUL flag flying high," inspiring continued dedication to academic and athletic pursuits.
Professor Akinwumi handed a cash prize of 20,000 Naira to each of the bronze medalists with an assurance that he would induct them into FUL's Hall of Fame as a mark of honour to keep their legacies. The recognition highlights the administration’s dedication and renewed focus on bolstering sports development at the prestigious Institution.
Responding, the Director of Sports, Mr. Ilori George Adebayo, lauded the administration’s support and expressed optimism for future competitions, noting that the recognition including the scholarships, financial incentives, and administrative backing would further elevate sports in the University to a new height.
The Vice-Chancellor and his management team have demonstrated a great commitment to fostering an environment conducive to learning and sports development by providing the needed support and resources to nurture these talents.
As the University celebrates this milestone, the scholarships and rewards granted to the athletes will serve as a powerful source of motivation for current and future student-athletes, heralding a bright future for sports development at the Federal University Lokoja. See more pictures here
