Lassa fever is one of the Viral Haemorrhagic Fevers. People who happen to be infected with the virus suffer from bleeding and may die. Studies have shown that the death rate is from 25% to 90%

Already, during this year’s outbreak, the following is the statistics for Kogi state as at 02/02/2020

Total suspected cases: 24
Confirmed cases of Lassa fever: (Ibaji: 2, Okene: 2, Idah: 3)
Deaths: 4
Contact tracing: 149

HOW DO PEOPLE GET INFECTED?
1. By allowing contact with fluid with Mastomys rats
2. By eating food that is infected with infected rat urine
3. By having contact with an infected person’s body fluid

WHAT ARE SYMPTOMS AND SIGNS OF LASSA FEVER?
1. High Fever
2. Sore throat
3. Vomiting
4. Body pains
5. Bleeding from puncture sites and orifices like ears, mouth, eyes

WHAT TO DO
1. Send patient to the University Medical Centre Complex
2. Avoid close contact with individual
