Ezra Shiloba Gbaje

Professor Ezra Shiloba Gbaje (PhD) was born on 27th April, 1970, attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Staff School (1976-1982), and Demonstration Secondary School(1982 -1988) for his primary and secondary education respectively. After his secondary school education, Ezra Shiloba Gbaje secured admission to the Federal University of Technology Minna in 1988 to study Mathematics and Computer Science and upon graduation in 1993, he participated in the National Youth Service Corp (1994) before joining the services of Ahmadu Bello University in 1995 as a Systems Programmer in the Bursary Department, a position he held for 5 years. He transferred his services to the Department of Library and Information Science of the same University as a Graduate Assistant.

In August 2004, Dr Gbaje secured admission for a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science at Emporia State University, Kansas USA, an American Library Association accredited Library School. On completion of his MLS in December 2005, he worked briefly as the Digital Services Librarian for the Raymon H Mulford Library, the Medical University of Ohio (now University of Toledo Health Science Campus). In 2006 he returned to the Department of Library and Information Science Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria as an Assistant Lecturer and immediately enrolled for his Ph.D in Information Science, where he bagged his Ph.D Degree in 2011.

Dr Gbaje has taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in the Department of Library and Information Science and has supervised over 41 Masters Students and 6 Ph.D Students with many more ongoing. He has over 38 peer-reviewed articles in both local and International Journals and has also presented over 15 papers at both local and International Conferences in addition to serving as a resource person in over twenty workshops. He has attended international and local workshops pertinent to librarianship in the digital age. As a strong advocate of Open Access Initiative, Dr Gbaje in 2008 and 2009 secured a grant of $9,701.00 and $3,000.00 respectively from the Electronic Information for Libraries Network (www.eIFL.net) to organize an International Workshop on Open Access Advocacy at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State.

Dr Gbaje served as Chairman of the Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigerian Library Association from 2014 to 2016. His proficiency in digital information technology has made him one of the highly sought resource persons in library and information technology-related workshops in Nigeria. He has also served as a consultant in the deployment and implementation of digital library and information technology projects in Federal, State and Private institutions

In the past few years, before his appointment as the University Librarian Federal University Lokoja, he had held administrative positions in the Department which include acting Head of Department, Examination officer, and Postgraduate Coordinator of the Departments of Library and Information Science Ahmadu Bello University. 

Dr Ezra Shiloba Gbaje has since completed his tenure as the University Librarian Federal University Lokoja and has returned to the Department of Library and Information Science Federal University Lokoja doing what he loves most (Teaching and Research).

The Senate of Federal University Lokoja at its 67th Meeting held on Thursday, 4th November, 2021 announced the Promotion of Dr Ezra Shiloba Gbaje to the Rank of full Professor.
