The Directorate of Advancement & Linkages, Federal University Lokoja was established on April 19, 2021, by Professor Olayemi Akinwumi. Its functions include exploring opportunities for working relationships and collaboration with local and international institutions, agencies, industry and individuals in areas of training, research, overall development and advancement of the University. The Directorate is headed by Professor Abel Joseph and is domiciled in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor.
Core Functions
The Directorate is charged with the following core functions:
To develop a Policy for the University on Advancement, Affiliations and International Relations
To internationalize the University by forming global partnerships and fostering relationships with foreign Universities, donor agencies, non-governmental organizations and multilateral institutions
To develop and manage relationships between the University and Corporate organizations, development partners and other major stakeholders, through collaborations, research, exchange programmes and Alumni relations
To explore avenues for the development of the University through fundraising endowments, grants, donations and other acceptable means to achieve its mandate.
To administer Exchange/Visiting programmes for both staff and the students, and initiate and execute MOUs and Agreements between the University and other institutions/bodies; and
To perform any other related duties, as may be necessary, to ensure the realistic attainment of the goals and objectives of the University in this area.
Key Roles and Activities
In addition to its core functions, the Directorate also plays the following roles:
- Promoting and coordinating activities and services with international exchange scholars and students, to ensure quality of international students experience and exposure.
- Informing Faculties, Staff and Students of international resources and opportunities available at any point in time by assisting Staff and Students with information on the existing partnerships within and outside Nigeria.
- Identifying the institutions and priority areas for new collaborations with a view to deepening and expanding existing relationships.
- Organizing symposiums, and Workshops with Corporate partners that focus on employability, industry trends, and internship conversions—transforming high-performing interns into full-time employees.
- Organizing ‘Student-Legacy-Projects’ for students who are in their final year.

Strategic Focus
The overall concern of the Directorate is to:
- Revive and strengthen Institutional collaboration and linkage programmes locally and internationally.
- Collaborate with Faculties and Departments for access to information and necessary follow-up.
- Review and, where appropriate, revive the existing or past collaborations with institutions and agencies: both current and expired MOUs with Federal University Lokoja and make appropriate recommendations to the Vice Chancellor for renewals and new initiatives.
Currently, more than 13 institutions and agencies are on active file of the Directorate for collaborative and linkage programmes, including other new institutions who are still discussing with the University for International Cooperation.

Mission Statement
To establish, coordinate, and manage Federal University Lokoja’s linkages with other higher educational institutions, corporate organizations and educational stakeholders at the national and international levels, by seeking support and forging partnerships in line with the mission statement of the University.
Vision
To steer Federal University Lokoja into global relevance in teaching, research and community service through strategic partnerships and collaborations with local and international partners in line with the vision statement of the university.
