The Federal University Lokoja Alumni Association (FULAA) has expressed appreciation to the Management of the University for fulfilling its promises by employing some of the best graduating students as Graduate Assistants. This was disclosed when a delegation of the Alumni Association and the newly employed former students of the University led by the Alumni President, Comrade Muhammed Sani Yusuf paid a “thank you” visit to the University Management on 22nd November, 2019 in the Vice-Chancellor’s Committee Room, Adankolo Campus.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Angela Freeman Miri, while addressing the delegation, urged them to allow honesty and hard work to be their hallmarks as they began their career in the academia stressing that they have a very bright future ahead of them. The Vice-Chancellor said that the University had given them a rare opportunity and therefore cautioned them not misuse the opportunity but work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them.
In addition, Prof. Miri said that the University has done much for them by training them to become graduates and also engaging them as Academic Staff after completing their studies. She said that the University will not only stop at employing them but will invest in their education by sponsoring them for Masters Degrees immediately.
One of the Graduate Assistants and Alumnus of the University who spoke at the meeting thanked the Management for the opportunity given to them to contribute to the development of their alma mater while soliciting for more consideration in the future for other qualified members of the Alumni Association. The Association equally used the opportunity to present some of their other demands before the Management which the Vice-Chancellor said they will look into.
The meeting was attended by all the Principal Officers of the University who took turns to intimate the young academics on the prospects and challenges ahead. It is noteworthy that these best graduating students engaged as Graduate Assistants distinguished themselves during their undergraduate programmes in the University and graduated with first class and second class upper divisions in their various fields of studies. They have since assumed duty in their respective departments.
