The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja, Prof. Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, has concluded his inspection and interactive tour of all seventeen faculties in the University, reaffirming his administration's commitment to staff welfare, academic excellence, infrastructural development and sustainable institutional growth.
The exercise, conducted in two phases, provided an opportunity for the Vice Chancellor and members of the management team to engage directly with staff, assess facilities and gain firsthand understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the University's academic units.
The second phase of the tour ended on Thursday, June 18, 2026, with visits to the Faculties of Management Sciences, Law, Education, Arts, Agricultural Sciences, Allied Health Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences, Basic Clinical Sciences and Clinical Sciences, following earlier visits to eight faculties during the first phase.
Across the faculties visited, Deans, Heads of Departments and members of staff commended the Vice Chancellor for the achievements recorded within a relatively short period of his administration.
They particularly praised ongoing staff welfare initiatives and expressed appreciation for management's commitment to improving the working and learning environment across the University.
While acknowledging the progress made so far, the faculties presented a number of requests requiring management attention. These included inadequate staffing, shortage of office accommodation, the need for faculty boardrooms, departmental libraries, functional laboratories, additional classrooms, improved infrastructure, functional ICT equipment for administrative and examination officers, as well as other facilities necessary for effective teaching, research and administration.
In his response, Prof. Ibileye expressed profound appreciation to members of staff for their resilience, sacrifices and commitment to the growth and development of the University.
He conveyed the gratitude of the Governing Council, Senate and Management, assuring staff that their dedication to duty would not go unnoticed.
"Where we are today is not where we will be tomorrow. We are all part of the transformation of the Federal University Lokoja. Your labour will not go in vain," the Vice Chancellor said.
Prof. Ibileye assured staff that the administration remains committed to addressing the needs identified during the tour and expressed confidence that the University would continue to witness remarkable progress in infrastructure, staffing and academic development.
He emphasized the need for mentorship within the academic community, calling on senior academics to provide guidance and leadership for younger colleagues in order to strengthen the University's future.
The Vice Chancellor also reiterated his administration's commitment to academic excellence, assuring staff that every effort is being made to ensure that all academic programmes meet accreditation requirements and continue to maintain the highest standards.
He disclosed plans aimed at further expanding the University's academic profile, including the proposed establishment of FUL Business School, while also revealing that the institution is set to receive five brand new electric buses to enhance transportation services.
Prof. Ibileye, however, warned against absenteeism, lateness to duty, extortion, sexual harassment, examination malpractice and other forms of misconduct, stressing that his administration would not tolerate actions capable of undermining the integrity and reputation of the University.
He noted that discipline, accountability and professionalism must remain the hallmark of every staff member, adding that acts of indiscipline would be dealt with in accordance with established regulations.
The Vice Chancellor explained that the tour was designed not only to inspect facilities but also to strengthen collaboration between management and staff, deepen mutual understanding and ensure that decisions are guided by the realities within the faculties.
With the successful completion of visits to all seventeen faculties, the exercise marks another significant milestone in the University's drive towards excellence, responsive governance and sustainable institutional transformation. See more pictures of the tour here
