PRESS RELEASE
The attention of the Management of the Federal University Lokoja has been drawn to the activities of unscrupulous individuals who have created fake Facebook accounts in the name of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, with the intent to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
The University wishes to categorically state that Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye does not currently operate any active or run multiple Facebook accounts, apart from his old personal profile bearing "Gbenga Ibileye" with the link https://www.facebook.com/gbenga.ibileye. Consequently, any Facebook profile bearing his name or purporting to represent him is fake, fraudulent, and should be disregarded.
It has also come to our notice that these fraudsters send voice notes and other messages to members of the public, claiming to facilitate contracts, appointments, financial assistance, or other business transactions on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor. The University unequivocally states that the Vice-Chancellor does not solicit or award contracts, negotiate business transactions, or conduct official engagements through Facebook, voice notes, or any unofficial social media platform.
Members of the public are therefore strongly advised to exercise utmost caution and refrain from engaging with such fraudulent accounts or responding to any requests for money, personal information, or promises of contracts and favours purportedly coming from the Vice-Chancellor.
Anyone who chooses to enter into any transaction or purported contract with these impersonators does so entirely at his or her own risk, as the Federal University Lokoja and its Vice-Chancellor shall not be held liable for any resulting loss or damage.
The University has commenced appropriate steps to report these fake accounts to the relevant authorities for investigation, while efforts are also being intensified to ensure that the perpetrators are identified and brought to justice.
The Management of the Federal University Lokoja appreciates the vigilance and cooperation of members of the public and urges everyone to remain alert against the activities of cybercriminals who seek to exploit the 21st University's reputation for fraudulent purposes.
Signed
