The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has been ranked 35th in Nigeria and 3rd among the 12 New Federal Universities established in 2011, according to a recent report by Webometrics Ranking of World Universities.
"Webometrics Ranking of World Universities" is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain.
According to its July, 2021 report, Federal University Lokoja (in less than 5 months) has moved from the previous 7th position amongst its peers established the same year to 3rd position, and moved from 78th position to 35th in Nigeria. In the Sub-Sahara Africa, FUL moved from 255th to 122nd, in Africa, from 396th to 221st, while in the world, from 10604th to 5024th.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi has described the new rating as a remarkable and impressive improvement from the Webometrics ranking report of Universities released in January, 2021, shortly before he took over as the 3rd Vice-Chancellor of FUL.
In a statement released on his social media handle, Professor Akinwumi remarked: “To the Glory of God, Federal University Lokoja has been ranked #35 in Nigeria at the just-published July 2021 webometrics ranking. This is a huge improvement from #78 in January 2021 ranking before I took over as the Vice Chancellor.” The Vice-Chancellor added that the University Management was determined to take FUL to the top 10 in Nigeria.
Recall that in his inauguration address, the Vice-Chancellor noted that he was determined to raise the bar in the standards and fortunes of Federal University Lokoja, adding that all efforts to improve on the University’s ranking commenced from the day he assumed office - 15th February, 2021.
