Staff, Students and Well-Wishers Celebrate Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Angela Freeman Miri on Her 61st Birthday Anniversary

Members of the University Community on 22nd August, 2020, joined family members, friends and well-wishers from all walks of life to felicitate with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Angela Freeman Miri on the occasion of her 61st Birthday Anniversary.

Remarkably, the students gathered around the Vice-Chancellor’s car park and entry point early in the morning where they ushered her into her office with birthday songs and musical instruments. It was indeed a moment of joy for our amiable and dynamic Vice-Chancellor who clocked 61 years as Staff and Students took turns to celebrate her on her special day.

Many took to her social media handles (Facebook and Twitter) to express their love and best wishes for her, while the University Facebook page was equally awash with birthday messages to celebrate her, being the last birthday she would celebrate while in office as the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja as her tenure comes to an end in February, 2021.

Remarkable of them were the birthday bashes organized in her honour by members of her immediate office (Vice-Chancellor’s Office) and the Students Union. Former Students and Members of FUL Alumni Association were not left out, as both staff and students took turns to recount the Vice-Chancellor’s good leadership qualities and motherly roles, saying she had impacted their lives positively.

The Vice-Chancellor, who was overwhelmed with joy for the show of love, expressed deep appreciation to Members of the University Community for coming to celebrate her even with birthday cakes and gifts despite the economic hardship and closure of universities in the country caused by the global pandemic (COVID-19).

Professor Miri expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to celebrate another important birthday in her life having celebrated Diamond Jubilee and 60th Birthday the previous year, also thanking God for His goodness, grace and mercies that kept her moving in spite of the daunting challenges. She thanked members of her immediate family for their love, support and understanding at all times in order for her to discharge her full responsibilities to the University without any undue distractions from them.

The Vice-Chancellor specially thanked Staff of her Office for their sacrifices and dedication to duty, most especially for keeping the office running during the lockdown. She took time to commend the efforts of each and every one of them, noting that the achievements she had recorded so far wouldn’t have been possible without their cooperation and commitment.

Among other dignitaries that joined in the birthday celebration were past and present Members of the University Management which include: Professor Makanjuola Olayemisi Osagbemi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor; Mr. Usman Suleman Obansa, Registrar; Mrs Florence Alabi Gbodi, Acting Bursar; Dr (Mrs) Sarah Dauda Yani, Acting University Librarian; as well as Sheikh Alhassan Ibrahim and Dr. Ezra Shiloba Gbaje, immediate past Bursar and University Librarian respectively. Click here to view the pictures
