About Directorate of the University Health Services
The Directorate of the University Health Services is one of the support services under the Vice-Chancellor's Office. It was established at the inception of the University. The Directorate is unique as it is one of the few directorates that operate simultaneously on the two campuses of the University. The University Health Services Unit became a Directorate officially in April 2023 with the appointment of the 1st substantive Director.
The Health Services comprise the following Units: Medical, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory, Medical records, Health Insurance, Revenue, Nutrition and Sanitation, Administration, and the Environmental Health Unit.
Services Provided by the Directorate
- Comprehensive Healthcare: The Services Directorate of University Health Services provides general medical and surgical care to staff, students, and the host community, including specialized care for specific demographics like the elderly and children.
- Specialized Clinics: Specialized clinics offer consultations in areas such as cardiology, hypertension, and diabetes on specified days, ensuring tailored care for specific health needs.
- Health Insurance Schemes: The Directorate manages and sustains universal health coverage schemes like the National Health Insurance and Tertiary Institution Social Health Insurance Scheme (TSHIP), benefiting staff and students.
- Counseling Support: Counseling services are available for both staff and students, facilitated in collaboration with the university's counseling center, addressing various mental health needs.
- Surgical Procedures: The clinic conducts a range of surgeries, including abdominal surgeries and biopsies at affordable rates, ensuring accessibility to essential surgical interventions.
- Laboratory Services: The health services provide a wide array of Laboratory tests at subsidized prices.
- Maternal and Child Care Services: These include immunization, antenatal care, and family planning services.
- Other Services like Electrocardiography (ECG) for cardiac rhythm, and Ultrasound scanning.
Staff of the Directorate
The Directorate of University Health Services has a blend of different professionals from all the health care fields that work together as a team to deliver quality healthcare to the University Community. There are about 69 staff of the Directorate made up of doctors, nurses, health attendants, pharmacists and pharmacist technicians, laboratory scientists and technicians, medical records officers, environmental health officers, and administrative staff. This team is led by the Director of University Health Services and is supported by the heads of different units in the Directorate, together they make up the management team of the Directorate.

Dr. Mrs. Chinenye Oche Otorkpa - Director
Dr. Mrs. Chinenye Oche Otorkpa, is a distinguished healthcare professional at the forefront of promoting quality healthcare delivery within the university community. With a rich background in medicine and public health, Dr. Otorkpa serves as the Director of the University Health Services, where she brings a wealth of expertise and passion for enhancing healthcare outcomes.
Dr. Otorkpa is a graduate of Medicine and Surgery from the prestigious University of Nigeria Nsukka, where she honed her skills and knowledge in clinical practice. She is a consultant Family physician earning fellowships from both the West African College of Physicians and the National Postgraduate College of Nigeria in the Faculty of Family Medicine. This extensive training equipped her with the expertise to provide comprehensive healthcare services, particularly in the context of family-centered care.
In addition to her clinical qualifications, Dr. Otorkpa holds a Master of Science in International Public Health from the Liverpool John Moores University UK and specialized training in Geriatrics from The University of Southern California, USA, further broadening her understanding of global health challenges and strategies for addressing them.
Dr. Otorkpa's leadership as the Director of the University Health Services is characterized by a relentless pursuit of excellence and a steadfast commitment to meeting the diverse healthcare needs of the university community. Through her visionary leadership, she fosters a culture of compassion, professionalism, and innovation, driving positive change and improving the overall health and well-being of all stakeholders.
Pharm. (Mrs.) Nasiru Kudirat - Head, Pharmacy Unit
Pharm. (Mrs.) Nasiru Kudirat is a seasoned pharmacist with a wealth of experience and a passion for delivering exceptional healthcare services. Since 2012, Pharm. Kudirat has been a dedicated member of the team at the Federal University, Lokoja Health Center, where she has made significant contributions to patient care and pharmacy management.
With a solid foundation in pharmacy, Pharm. Kudirat obtained her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Jos in 2005 and a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho, in 2019. In recognition of her dedication to professional excellence, Pharm. Kudirat was honored with induction as a Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists in 2022, a testament to her commitment to advancing pharmaceutical practice and patient care standards.
Currently serving as the Deputy Director and Head of Pharmacy Unit at the directorate of University Health services, Pharm. Kudirat demonstrates exemplary leadership skills and a strong commitment to quality healthcare delivery. Her role involves overseeing pharmacy operations, ensuring the safe and effective dispensing of medications, and providing expert pharmaceutical care to patients.
Dr. Salihu Joseph Lamidi - Head, Medical Unit
Dr. Salihu Joseph Lamidi is a dynamic and seasoned medical practitioner with over two decades of experience. As the Head of the Medical Unit at the University Health Services, his leadership is characterized by dependability, resourcefulness, and a commitment to excellence. Dr. Lamidi is known for his compassionate approach, technical acumen, and results-driven mindset, ensuring high-quality healthcare delivery within the university community.
Dr. Salihu obtained his M.B.B.S. from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, and has obtained several update certificates in various areas of medicine and healthcare delivery, including Evidence-based Clinical Practice and Clinic Management. Dr. Salihu Joseph Lamidi's dedication, expertise, and leadership make him an invaluable asset in the field of healthcare. His commitment to excellence and patient care continue to inspire those around him within the University Health Services.
Mrs Talatu Mariam Yunusa - Head, Nursing Unit
Mrs. Talatu Mariam Yunusa, is the Chief Matron and Head of the Nursing Unit at the University Health Services. With a wealth of experience and expertise in nursing leadership, Mrs. Yunusa plays a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality healthcare services within the university community.
As the Chief Matron, Mrs. Yunusa oversees all nursing operations, ensuring that patient care is delivered with compassion, professionalism, and efficiency. Her leadership is characterized by a commitment to excellence, patient-centered care, and continuous improvement in nursing practices.
Mrs. Yunusa's extensive experience in nursing leadership equips her with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively manage the Nursing Unit. Dogo Abdullahi Duniya - Head, Medical Laboratory Unit
Dogo Abdullahi Duniya is a passionate and dedicated medical laboratory scientist, currently serving as the Head of the Medical Laboratory Unit at the University Health Services. With a solid educational background, Dogo was trained as an Associate Medical Laboratory Scientist at the prestigious School of Medical Laboratory Science, University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan. Building upon this foundation, he furthered his academic pursuits and obtained a Masters degree in Immunology from Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma, Edo State.
In his role as the Head of the Medical Laboratory Unit, Dogo brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. His commitment to excellence and his passion for advancing healthcare practices make him a valuable asset to the university community. David Oziama Priscilla (Mrs) - Head, Medical Records Unit
David Oziama Priscilla (Mrs.) is a passionate healthcare professional with a drive for professional growth, Priscilla has acquired a diverse range of certificates from esteemed institutions over the years. Seeking specialization in Health Information Management, David pursued a Technician diploma from the College of Health Technology, Idaho, in 2007. In 2023, David achieved another milestone in his career by earning a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Health Information Management from Aminu Dabo College of Health Science and Technology, Kano.
Currently serving as the head of the Medical Records Unit at the University Health Services, Mrs. Priscilla plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient management of medical records and health information. With her leadership, the Medical Records Units uphold the highest standards of accuracy, confidentiality, and accessibility of patient information, contributing to the delivery of quality healthcare services within the university community.
As a seasoned professional in Health Information Management, Mrs. Priscilla brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role, driving continuous improvement and innovation in medical records management practices.
Mr. Okuku Kingsley Kehinde - Acting Head, Unit Environmental Health Unit
Okuku Kingsley Kehinde is a dedicated Environmental Health Officer with a steadfast commitment to promoting public health and environmental sustainability. Armed with a Master's of Science in Environmental Management, Kingsley embodies a wealth of knowledge and expertise in addressing complex environmental challenges.
Currently serving as the Acting Head of Unit (AG HOU) in the Environmental Health Unit, Kingsley plays a vital role in overseeing critical initiatives aimed at safeguarding public health and preserving environmental quality. In this capacity, he leads a team of professionals in implementing comprehensive strategies for waste management, pollution control, and sanitation improvement, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and fostering community well-being.
Okwoli Grace Ajuma - NHIA Desk Officer and Head, Administrative Unit
Okwoli Grace Ajuma is a dedicated professional with a background in Economics and a passion for administrative excellence. Currently serving as the NHIA Desk Officer and Head of the Administrative Unit, she has a Bachelor's degree in Economics.
Grace brings a strong foundation in economic principles and administrative management to her position. As the NHIA Desk Officer, Okwoli is responsible for overseeing the university's compliance with the National Health Insurance Scheme, ensuring that students and staff have access to quality healthcare services. Her role requires meticulous attention to detail, effective communication skills, and a thorough understanding of regulatory requirements. In addition to her responsibilities as the NHIA Desk Officer, Okwoli serves as the Head of the Admin Unit, where she oversees administrative processes.
Vision
The vision of the Directorate is to be an asset to the University by providing model healthcare to the University community and public that will project the Federal University Lokoja as one of the best among her contemporaries in the provision of healthcare and also to be an example of quality health care in the State.
