Watch the groundbreaking ceremony of Engr. Dr. Joseph Oyeyani Makoju Memorial Hall, a 250 seating capacity lecture theatre, donated to Federal University Lokoja by the family of the late industrial icon and philanthropist, through the Joseph Oyeyani Makoju Foundation.

Recall that in April this year, during the 2nd Memorial Lecture organized by the University in honour of the late national figure themed "Challenges in Infrastructure Development: The Need for Adequate Engineering Capacity," the wife and matriarch of Makoju's family, Dr. Gladys Makoju, announced the institutionalization of a scholarship award to any outstanding Ph.D. student in the Faculty of Engineering, and a donation of a lecture theater to the Institution.
Interestingly, today, 13th July 2024, marks the fulfillment of that promise to FUL and also in commemoration of the 76th posthumous birthday of this iconic personality.

The building, which is to be completed and used for the next edition of the Memorial Lecture, will further complement the administration of Professor Olayemi Akinwumi's efforts in terms of infrastructural development of the University.

Joseph O. Makoju, MNI, OON, OFR (13 July 1948 – 11 April 2022) served as the Group Managing Director/ CEO of the Dangote Cement PLC; Special Adviser (Electric Power) to former President Goodluck Jonathan; Special Adviser to the President/Chief Executive, Dangote Group; Chairman, Cement Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and West African Power Pool Executive Board; and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the erstwhile National Electric Power Authority (NEPA)/Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
