On Wednesday, September 11, Professor Ayodele Anthony Bamidele delivered one of the most brilliant, attention-grabbing inaugural lectures of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) which is the 22nd in the series, tagged "Beyond Entertainment: Unraveling the African Novel as a Utilitarian Art."

Professor Bamidele, who is currently the Dean, Faculty of Arts, wowed his audience as he took them through a scintillating expedition of his scholarly journey of over two and a half decades as a Professor of Contemporary African Literature. 

It is worthy to note that out of the 22 inaugural lectures held so far in the history of the FUL, this particular edition is the 20th organized under Professor Olayemi Akinwumi within the past three (3) years, underscoring his unwavering commitment to item number 2 of his 5-year vision plan, which is to ensure the institutionalization of university culture. 

It will be recalled that before Professor Akinwumi's appointment as the 3rd Vice-Chancellor of the now thirteen-year-old University, only two (2) Professors had delivered inaugural lectures. However, upon assumption of office in February 2021, the Vice-Chancellor immediately constituted a standing committee on Inaugural Lectures to drive the vision, and he has continued to encourage both old and newly promoted Professors to come forward to present their research exploits before the University Community to be fully inducted into the highly revered professorial chair. 

In addition to these inaugural lectures, several public lectures have been organized under the current administration where distinguished personalities from within and outside Nigeria were invited to deliver lectures on topical issues that have provided a platform for the gown and town to come together to profer solutions to national issues.

During the 22nd inaugural lecture held on Wednesday, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, who was visibly excited and filled with great joy, delivered glowingly his 20th inaugural address showing a deep sense of gratitude and fulfillment, just as the inaugural lecturer paid glowing tributes to his predecessors.

"To give an account of many years of research in just an hour is akin to William Shakespeare saying - turning the accomplishments of many years into an hour glass," Professor Bamidele averred.
