Members of Adankolo Community Council have pledged their unalloyed support to the Management of Federal University Lokoja towards promoting lasting peace that will bring about rapid development of the University.
The representatives of the host community made this known when they paid a familiarization visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Angela F. Miri at her office in Adankolo Campus of the University. The visit was led by the Etsu of Adankolo Kingdom, His Royal Highness, Chief Elder David Aibe Agbayi (JP) who brought greetings from the Maigari of Lokoja, His Royal Majesty, Alhaji Dr. Mohammed Kabiru Maikarfi III (OON).
In his address, the Etsu of Adankolo Kingdom thanked the Management for the regular admission of their youths into the various proggrammes run by the University and equally expressed appreciation for the employment opportunities granted to them. He commended the Management for ensuring the cordial relationship between the University and the host community which has brought peace and security, stressing that the good people of Adankolo community are peace-loving people. The Royal Father expressed joy and satisfaction on the laudable achievements of the University urging the Management to sustain the tempo.
The Vice-Chancellor, while responding, thanked the host community for the warm reception given to her and her Management Team, and for creating an enabling environment for the University to play its part in training future leaders that will bring the needed change in the society. She recounted the achievements made under her leadership and her vision to move the University forward and be one of the best universities in the country.
Professor Miri urged leaders of the Community to sensitize their youths to take advantage of the newly introduced Postgraduate and Remedial Science programmes in the University and acquire additional knowledge especially in ICT and Computer stating that the University will soon commence Certificate and Diploma programmes in those areas. The Vice-Chancellor assured the host community of employment opportunities for Adankolo youths when the University moves to its Permanent Site in Felele.
Similarly, the Registrar of the University, Mr. Usman Suleman Obansa, who joined the Vice-Chancellor along with the University Librarian to welcome the community representatives, thanked them for the visit.
The leaders used the opportunity to commiserate with the Vice-Chancellor over the demise of her brother, Late Hon. Justice Lazarus Dakyen, former Chief Judge of Plateau State and a minute silence was observed in honour of the deceased. This was followed by prayer session for the Vice-Chancellor, the Management and the entire University Community.
