The Management of
Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has finally relocated and commenced administrative
operations at the University’s Permanent Site in Felele, along Lokoja-Okene road,
with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Angela Freeman Miri and the Deputy
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Makanjuola Olayemisi Osagbemi moving their offices from
the Adankolo Campus to the Felele Campus on Monday, 5th October,
2020.
In line with
her vision upon assumption of office in February, 2016, the Vice-Chancellor had
announced the official movement during the 3rd & 4th
Combined Convocation Ceremony held on Saturday, 14th December, 2019
at the Permanent Site, following the Governing Council’s meeting earlier held on
the Site on 11th December, 2019.
Professor Miri maintained
that since her assumption of duty, it has been her desire that Federal
University Lokoja begins operation at the Permanent Site where opportunities,
especially with respect to the vast space for fast and steady development,
abounds. She noted that the movement will pave the way for further growth and
rapid development of the University, as the Adankolo Campus could no longer
accommodate more infrastructure especially for the newly established faculties
and programmes.
Even though the
planned movement had suffered some initial setbacks due to the COVID-19
pandemic that resulted in the shutting down of all Tertiary Institutions across
the country, that did not deter the University Management who were determined
and have been working round the clock to ensure that the movement was possible in
spite of the challenges.
Aside the
completion of the existing structures, there are also visible massive infrastructural
development ongoing at the Permanent Site through various TETFund Funded Interventions,
most of which are now at the completion stage. Some of the structures at the
New Campus are ready for occupation.
Federal
University Lokoja will maintain dual campuses. While the Faculty of Science will remain at the Adankolo Campus for proximity
to the ultra-modern laboratories constructed under the current administration, the
Faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, and Education
respectively will move to the Felele Campus as the ongoing projects are being
completed and furnished.
It is hoped
that this bold step taken by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Angela Freeman Miri
and her Management Team will usher in a new wave of development and transformation
of the University at its Permanent Site, in the not too distant future.
Kudos to the
current Administration for foresight, doggedness and determination to ensure
that Federal University Lokoja ranks one of the best not only among its peers
in the country but also, in Africa and the world.
