ORIENTATION FOR THIRD SET OF STUDENTS IN FEDERAL UNIVERSITY LOKOJA

A 2-day orientation programme for the third set of newly admitted students (2014-2018) was held from 27th to 28th of October, 2014 to acquaint the students with what they should expect in their new environment and what is also expected of them.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdulmumini Hassan Rafindadi, in his keynote address, welcomed the students for being one of the lucky few to have gained admission into this young citadel of learning. He pointed out that, out of the 519 given admission to this academic session, only 450, have reported as at the time of the orientation.  Also, the Vice Chancellor, in his Recipe for a Successful University Stay, further stressed that the principal aim of coming to the University was to earn degrees in various subject areas, however, learning was expected to come shoulder to shoulder with character, therefore he charged the students to be conscious of that at all times.

Some of the lectures delivered during the orientation programme include: Dress Code in the University by Dr. (Mrs.) Jacqueline Badaki, a Senior Lecturer in Biological Sciences Department; Religious Tolerance in FUL by Imam Khalid and Pastor Kayode Ajibade. Prof. P. A. Audu, Dean of Science and Mr. Francis Okeme, Chief Security Officer gave their various lectures on Result Computation/Course Credit System and Security Tips, respectively. Other lectures were on Accessing Health Care in FUL/NHIS, The Academic Office, You and Counseling, Sports in FUL among others, delivered by various Heads of Departments.

It was an exhilarating moment for the students as it afforded them the opportunity to ask questions and other related issues within the University learning environment, as well as the host community. The orientation ended with interactive sessions between the students and their various HODs and other staff members, at their departments.
