It is no longer news that one of the thrusts of Professor Olayemi Akinwumi-led Administration is to attract rapid and unprecedented infrastructural development to Federal University Lokoja (FUL) within his five-year tenure as the first indigenous Vice-Chancellor of the eleven-year-old University.
Undoubtedly, the erudite Professor and Administrator par excellence along with his very supportive team of Management has continued to pursue vigorously this particular dream and other key areas of his five-year Vision Plan towards providing a pristine learning environment conducive for teaching, learning, and research that would transform FUL into a 21st Century University.
In achieving this worthy objective, the Vice-Chancellor, despite dwindling financial allocation and the challenges posed by the nationwide strike, has been consistent in deploying all his arsenals and networks including prudent and judicious use of scarce resources in ensuring that the University still witness an unimaginable level of transformation.
It is on this premise that the VC and his Management team, again, on Monday, 26th September, 2022, handed over project sites and contract documents to contractors at different locations within the University Permanent Site which is now a beehive of activity since the award of the contracts.
This array of projects, which were to be executed under the Year 2022 Capital Projects as prepared by the Physical Planning & Development Department (PP&DD) of the University, included the extension of the University Health Center (2nd phase), construction of internal roads with drainages and culverts for easy access to linked areas, recreational and entrepreneurial centers, mega water project, block of classrooms, installation of integrated solar-powered boreholes and streetlights, security post and water reticulation around the hostels.
Other projects to be executed through the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) were blocks of lavatories, step down/extension of 33KVA dedicated high tension line from the Zango substation to the University gate, and extension of the 33KVA distribution line from the main gate to the academic core areas and office buildings that would guarantee 24-hour uninterrupted electricity supply to the University, amongst others.
During the handing over ceremony that was witnessed by Principal Officers/Management, Directors, Heads of Units/Divisions, Staff, and other members of the University Community, the Vice-Chancellor charged the contractors to immediately commence work on the sites, and ensure timely completion and delivery of quality projects, adding that he has zero-tolerance for abandoned projects.
Similarly, he mandated Dr. Bankole Mutalib Adeowu, and Engr. Olukayode Ojo, Director of PP&DD and Ag. Director of Works respectively, to ensure strict monitoring and compliance with the stipulated guidelines and agreements.
