"Build in our Children the Capacity to Take Over from us" - Prof. Akinwumi Tells Staff School, FULIC Teachers

The Vice-Chancellor, of Federal University Lokoja, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi has called on all Teachers of the Federal University Lokoja International College (FULIC) and their counterparts in the University Staff School to take every opportunity provided for them to build capacity in readiness to raise men and women of worth that will take over from the passing generation. 

Prof. Akinwumi made the call at the One-Day Capacity-building Workshop put together by the University Management in collaboration with Stakeholders in the University's College and Staff School to empower Teachers for optimal productivity held at the multipurpose auditorium of the University staff school, Adankolo, Lokoja.

Professor Akinwumi harped on the need for adherence to rules of engagement and called for maximum discipline and abstinence from unethical behaviour.

He said his administration will have zero tolerance for indiscipline and other unethical behaviours capable of sabotaging efforts of Management in making the College one of the best in the State and the Country at large.

"We are going to ensure regular capacity-building workshops within the limited resources available to us, we will ensure a regular inspection of what is being done as we update you with current happenings in education as it affects you at this level

"We will not take for granted anyone who will engage in any act inimical to the success envisaged for this school" Prof. Akinwumi stressed.

The Administrator of the Federal University Lokoja Schools, Mrs Habiba Anavoza Adeiza enjoined the teachers to leverage the wealth of knowledge of the resource persons and glean lessons that would prepare them for the tax ahead. 

On his part, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, stressed the importance of the Workshop, noting that it was a step in the right direction and a good way to mark the Teacher's Week. Professor Gbenga Ibileye noted that the Training would change the narrative around private schools being better than public schools if teachers take advantage of opportunities such as the Workshop to up their skills. 

Professor Gbenga who was the lead paper presenter at the maiden speech and prize-giving day of the University Staff School, charged the teachers to discover those factors that make private schools appear better and thicker than public schools and promised to interrogate such claims to arm the university staff school workers with the comparative advantage that will give them an edge over others in a similar profession, whether private or public. 

The training witnessed an array of experienced Professionals in the field of Education, carefully selected to ensure that teachers in the staff school were given quality orientation for best practices in managing pupils and students at the primary and secondary levels.

Professor Joseph Omolehin, a Professor of Mathematics and Dean of the Faculty of Education at Federal University Lokoja was the Keynote Speaker, Professor Tolorunleke Reuben - Lead Resource Person as Dr Achimugu Lawrence and Dr Tolorunkeke Emmanuel also took turns to enlighten Teachers.

Also in attendance were members of the Management of the Federal University Lokoja International College (FULIC), led by the Chairman of the Board - Professor Mohammed Suleiman Audu, FULIC Ag. Principal - Dr Shulamite Adefokun Idowu and Mrs Iyaode Morenike, Vice Principal, amongst others.
