The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi on behalf of the Management and Staff of Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has felicitated with the Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Dr. Usman Ogbo on his 50th birthday anniversary, describing him as an astute administrator and exceptional leader who has distinguished himself through his passion for quality and excellence service.

Professor Akinwumi, while congratulating the erudite scholar of no mean repute, noted that the history and success stories of tertiary education in Kogi State could not be complete without mentioning the contributions of Dr. Ogbo, adding that within two years in office, the Rector has transformed and changed the narrative of the Institution for the overall good of the State.

Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor, who said that Dr. Ogbo has written his name in gold and stamped his footprints on the sands of history of the State-owned Polytechnic as he celebrates his golden jubilee with a Public Lecture and Presentation of two (2) great books, urged him to sustain the tempo.  

He prayed for long life, good health, and peace as he continued in his good work of uplifting the standard of the Institution in all facets, as well as contributing to the development of education in Kogi State. "Fifty Hearty Cheers to you my friend and brother," the VC said.

Earlier, at the Public Lecture entitled: "Federal Government-ASUU Imbroglio: Interrogating the Issues and the Way Forward" delivered by Professor M.S. Audu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), FUL, the renowned scholar and historian gave an in-depth background into the incessant strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the danger it portends for Nigeria's education system including distortion in academic calendars, inconsistent learning process, demotivation, and increased financial cost, among others. 

However, Professor M.S. Audu proffered a way forward from the bleak future of our education system, saying it is not enough to continue to trade blames over the stalemate. At the end of his lecture, the DVC and Guest Speaker was greeted with a standing ovation by the large audience, who were engrossed in rapt attention, for delivering a very apt and thought-provoking address. The birthday celebration which took place at Kafas Multipurpose Hall in Lokoja on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, was graced by the Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello who was ably represented by his Chief of Staff, Pharmacist Abdulkareem Asuku. 

Other notable personalities at the auspicious event included the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Prince Matthew Kolawole; Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr (Mrs) Folashade Arike Ayoade; Vice-Chancellor, Thomas Adewumi University (TAU), Prof. Francisca Oladipo; Vice-Chancellor, Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Engr.
