Celebration of Life: FUL Registrar, Dr. Rebecca Okojie Buries Mother at 93 as VC Leads Powerful Delegation to Irrua

It was indeed celebration of a fulfilled life and gratitude to God for a life well-spent as the Registrar of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Dr (Mrs) Rebecca Aimiohu Okojie buried her loving mother Madam Dora Owoli Aiyu (Nee Aisuebeogun) who died on 5th August, 2022 at the ripe age of 93 years.

The burial ceremony which took place on Friday, 28th October, 2022 at St. Anselm Catholic Church, Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area, Edo State, witnessed the presence of dignitaries from all walks of life who graced the felicitous occasion to celebrate with our amiable Registrar and her esteemed family.

Notable of the cherished personalities at the event was the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi who led a powerful delegation, comprising Principal Officers and Members of Management, Provost, Deans, Directors, and Representative of Council, among other Senior and Administrative Staff of the University, to the final burial rites of the nonagenarian. 

Another distinguished guest at the funeral mass was the Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Dr. Usman Ogbo, while Rev. Fr. Paul-Kolade Tubi Ph.D, Chaplain of Regina Caeli Catholic Chaplaincy, Federal University Lokoja celebrated the mass along with other officiating priests.

The University Registry Department was also not left out as the Chairman of the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA), FUL Chapter, Mr Ayuba Yahaya led other Senior Registry Staff including Deputy Registrars to the ceremony.

While conveying his condolences on behalf of the entire University Community, the Vice-Chancellor urged the Registrar and her family to sustain the endearing legacies of the late matriarch. The VC said that the news of Mama's demise came at a time when her motherly care and wise counsel was most needed to guide her daughter in her new assignment as the Registrar of FUL.

"Let the life that Mama lived and the values that she held so dearly in her sojourn here on earth be a consolation to the family and a strong desire to continue her legacies. It is our earnest prayers that the Good Lord will strengthen you and preserve the family in the years ahead," the VC prayed.

Speaking further, Professor Akinwumi, who earlier attended the Christian Wake along with his Management Team on Thursday evening, stated that FUL was greatly blessed to have an astute administrator like Dr Okojie as the new Registrar, adding that her wealth of experience in university administration which she has brought to bear on her new appointment in FUL has changed the narrative and repositioned the registry department for greatness. 

He noted that the Registrar's invaluable contributions to the progress of the University within a very short period in office were highly commendable, and expressed gratitude to the deceased for producing such a great woman and priceless gift to FUL and humanity.

The Registrar who was full of gratitude for the massive show of love, thanked FUL Management and members of the University Community for coming to honour and celebrate with her during the burial of her late mother. See more pictures here
