ICT Development: FUL to Partner Former Student/Innovator in Building Smart Campuses

The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) is set to partner with one of its alumni and innovator, Morgan Victor, the CEO of WowWow Innovations through his digital invention - WaoCard (a smart card with multiple functions), towards building smart and 21st Century campuses for the University. The WaoCard uses Near-Field Communication (NFC) and Quick Response Code (QR) technologies to extend conventional ID cards.

During his presentation before the University Management at the weekly Principal Officers Committee's (POC) meeting, Mr. Victor took POC members through his innovation, highlighting its many possibilities including multi-functional smart identity card for staff and students, access control/security/event management system, multiple tap-and-go functionalities with highly secure technology (NFC/QR Code), cashless smart campus, smart campus shuttles, among other features and mouthwatering benefits.

Speaking further, the young entrepreneur and inventor disclosed that he was very proud to announce to the delighted members of Management that the journey to becoming a fast-growing Tech-Company started from FUL - his alma mater where the idea was birthed and had the prelaunch in March 2017 also at the University. He said that in the same year, the idea won the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Foundation (TEF) grant to be among 1,000 ideas selected across Africa.

In his reaction, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi who was highly impressed with the brilliant presentation, assured the former student and graduate of Geography cum IT professional of his full support and promised the University's readiness to enter into a strong partnership with his company to further drive the Administration's ICT development policies towards building a tech-friendly environment conducive for teaching, learning, and research.

Professor Akinwumi noted that the Management of FUL had no other option than to encourage and support its products who are excelling greatly and making the University proud in their various chosen professions. He further directed that the process leading to a successful collaboration be initiated, and urged him to synergize with the Directorate of ICT and other relevant offices/stakeholders while expressing his dogged commitment toward the actualization of the partnership.
