The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Abdulsamad Rabiu Initiative (ASR Africa), Ubo Udoh has stated that the selection of Federal University Lokoja (FUL) as one of the Nigerian Universities and Tertiary Institutions to benefit from its 5.5 Billion Naira Africa Tertiary Education Grants Scheme for infrastructural development for the year 2022 was in recognition of the University’s outstanding service delivery and track record of its graduates nationally and globally.  

This was conveyed in a letter received by the University Management and presented by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi at a joint meeting of Principal Officers, Provosts, Deans, Directors, and Heads of relevant Units/Divisions, to chart the way forward and draw out the Action Plan for the New Year.

The letter entitled “Nomination for the 2022 Abdulsamad Rabiu Initiative (ASR Africa) Tertiary Education Grant,” and signed by Ubon Udoh reads in part:

“We are pleased to inform you that the Board of Directors of the ABDUL SAMAD RABIU AFRICA INITIATIVE (ASR Africa) has approved a N250,000,000.00 (Two Hundred and Fifty Million Naira, only) grant to your Institution as a recipient of the ASR Africa Tertiary Education Grants Scheme for the year 2022.

“Your selection is in recognition of the quality of service delivered by your Institution and the pedigree of your graduands nationally and internationally.

“The ASR Africa Tertiary Education Grant Scheme is an intervention initiative targeted at sustainably impactful interventions in Education in Africa. This grant is part of the efforts of the Chairman of BUA Group, Alh. Abdul Samad Rabiu, to give back to the African Continent and make a lasting impact in education, as a means of uplifting and restoring the dignity and lives of Africans.”

While presenting the letter to the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Rebecca A. Okojie, the Vice-Chancellor expressed unreserved appreciation to the Chairman of BUA Group, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, for the kind gesture extended to the University through the laudable intervention.

Recall that in a press statement released on December 22, 2022, ASR Africa announced FUL as one of the selected Nigerian Universities to benefit from its 5.5 Billion Naira Tertiary Education Grants Scheme (TEGS) for infrastructural development which was shared across the 22 beneficiary tertiary institutions at N250,000.00 each.

Meanwhile, during the long-hour expanded Management meeting held on Monday, January 9, 2023 at the College of Health Sciences Conference Room, Adankolo Campus, the proposed action plans for the year 2023 were presented by various Directorates/Divisions for deliberation toward kick-starting the year with a clear-cut direction and great prospects that would drive the administration.

In his remarks at the retreat, the Vice-Chancellor who gave a clue of some of his administration’s agenda and set out goals for another year, charged the Provost, Deans, Directors, Heads of Units/Divisions as well as all relevant stakeholders to be committed to actualizing their respective action plans for the year, while expressing optimism that his administration’s relentless efforts in the previous year would yield more positive results in 2023.
