The Senate of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has renewed the appointment of Professor M.S. Audu as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) for another term of two (2) years based on his satisfactory and outstanding performance within the past two years and upon the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor as stipulated in the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1993, as amended.

It would be recalled that the Senate of the University at its 59th meeting held on Thursday, March 25, 2021, unanimously approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Suleiman Audu as Deputy Vice-Chancellor following his nomination by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, which was subsequently ratified by the Governing Council. It was one of the first appointments made by the Vice-Chancellor immediately after he assumed office in February 2021.

Following the expiration of the initial two years in March 2023 and as contained in the Act, the Senate of FUL at its 76th Regular Meeting held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 (today) also unanimously approved the renewal of the appointment for another period of two years following the positive report of his performance by the Vice-Chancellor who presided over the meeting as the Chairman of Senate.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor had announced at the weekly meeting of the Principal Officers Committee (POC) on Monday, that the tenure of the erudite Professor of History as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) had elapsed, being the reason he was absent at the meeting yesterday. During the meeting, the VC informed POC members that Professor M.S. Audu would no longer be participating or functioning in the capacity of DVC until Senate renews the appointment in accordance with the provision of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1993, as amended.

In his remarks, while making the presentation on the floor of Senate, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the recommendation was hinged on the satisfactory performance and cordial working relationship between him and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor whom he said has made tremendous and invaluable contributions to the success of his administration. He added that Professor M.S. Audu has been very committed, hardworking, and supportive of the administration, saying he had enjoyed working with him as a strong pillar and dependable ally without any regret.

Professor Akinwumi, thereafter, thanked members of Senate for their usual support assuring them of his unalloyed commitment to the progress of the University.
