The Student's Union (SU) Executives and their counterparts in the Student Representative Council (SRC) have pledged their unwavering support and commitment to a peaceful FUL under their leadership. The executives, who were inaugurated on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at the Council Chambers of the College of Health Sciences, Adankolo, promised to be of good behaviour and approach all matters from the standpoint of peace, as they are committed to partnering with Management in building a University that will be home to all for the benefit of all.

Taking the oath as administered by the acting Registrar, Mr. Vincent Ifedayo Ojo, Comrade Agada Idoko Achiever, the Students' Union President, pledged to uphold the dictates of the Union's constitution and ensure an unwavering commitment to a University where peace and harmony thrive.

In his acceptance speech, Achiever promised to uphold the principle of mutual respect for constituted authority while carrying out his duties as a student union leader. He noted that as his tenure begins, he would take advantage of the Vice-Chancellor's open-door policy to ensure that all student grievances and demands were presented through the use of dialogue which is a veritable tool for effective administration. The SU President used the opportunity to introduce his appointees, from the Chief of Staff to the Director of Academic Planning.

Similarly, Comrade Oladunjoye Olushola Kayode, the Pioneer Speaker of the Students' Representative Council (SRC), promised an egalitarian student society based on integrity and honesty. The Comrade Speaker also promised to provide students with quality representation as they make laws that would continue to promote peace and progress under the leadership of the Students' Union and the administration of Professor Olayemi Akinwumi.

Addressing the students' representatives after the inauguration, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi encouraged them to maintain good behavior and build on the hard work that has gone into ensuring FUL's position as a University to be reckoned with in Nigeria and beyond while building a future for themselves and those who would come after them.

Professor Akinwumi emphasized his administration's commitment to the well-being of the students, noting that every effort by Management is directed toward building a University they could be proud of, and ensuring that students have a conducive environment where teaching and learning are made easy. The VC highlighted some of his administration's recent efforts at providing electricity, good roads, a standard mini stadium, an entrepreneurial center, the soon-to-be-completed Senate building, an assembly hall, and an auditorium, amongst others.

The Vice-Chancellor, however, warned that the University would not tolerate radicalism, noting that student unionism is an age-old activity that was neither new nor unique to FUL. He, therefore, encouraged the students to continue to give their best, assuring that he would not relent in ensuring that they get the best out of his administration. Professor Akinwumi pledged to assist the Students' Representative Council in securing their official vehicle as soon as practicable saying he was committed to their welfare.

In his admonition, the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Abdullahi Musa Yusuf urged the Student Union executive and their colleagues in the Students'  Representative Council to uphold the tenets of their scholarship and abide by the rules outlined in the Student Handbook. He pledged his continued support and guidance in ensuring their smooth administration. The Dean of Students warned the students to refrain from any action that could tarnish the image of the University, their parents, and even the union body.

The Patron of the Students' Union and Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Gbenga Ibileye lent his voice to commend the Union President for his demeanor and great wisdom with which he marshals his points. The Provost urged him to ensure a peaceful tenure and bequeath enduring legacies that would place his name in the annals of the history of the University. While urging the students' representatives to take advantage of the administration's open-door policy, he warned them not to start any project that could spiral out of control, citing violence and protest as options that must be avoided at all costs.
