The Faculty of Education, Federal University Lokoja (FUL), on May 23, 2023, organized the maiden edition of orientation programme for its first set of teaching practice students.
The educative programme which took place at the Lecture Theatre B and witnessed a massive turnout of students was graced by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, and the Registrar, Dr. Rebecca A. Okojie, among other management and top officers of the University.
In his opening remarks, the Dean, Faculty of Education, Professor Joseph Omolehin thanked the Vice-Chancellor for giving the Faculty all the needed support and encouragement. Professor Omolehin particularly applauded the Vice-Chancellor for ensuring that the 15 programmes of the Faculty, which he (VC) inherited from his predecessor in 2021, were resource verified by the National Universities Commission (NUC) despite the paucity of funds.
Similarly, Professor Omolehin expressed gratitude for the appointment and posting of a Professor of Physical and Health Education which he described as a valuable addition to the Faculty as it emboldened her readiness for accreditation.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, who was earlier represented by Professor Abel Joseph, Director of General Studies and former Dean of Student Affairs, expressed great satisfaction with the Faculty's rapid success. He charged them to continue to demonstrate commitment to their duties as Management was always ready to give them the needed support, assuring that the challenges raised by the Dean would be looked into to resolve them.
While addressing the students, the Vice-Chancellor admonished them to be good ambassadors of the University as they set out for their first teaching practice experience at their respective places of attachment. He affirmed that the Faculty of Education in any university is very significant as it runs programmes aimed at training quality teachers who will, in turn, mould the future generations of teachers, adding that education is the foundation of all other programmes and the bedrock of growth in any society.
"Remember that patience, commitment, and dedication are basic requirements for success. You must therefore be prayerful and resilient if you are to accomplish success in life and your chosen fields," the VC encouraged. Click here to see more pictures
