Just a few weeks to the end of the current administration, the executive arm of the Faculty Association of Social Sciences Students (FASSS), Federal University Lokoja, has successfully initiated and commissioned not less than three (3) major projects spread across the Faculty.
The President of the Association, Comrade Matthew David disclosed this on Wednesday, 5th July 2023 at the grand commissioning of three (3) mega lecture podiums held at the Faculty Square. According to him, the 2021/2022 administration under his leadership has been able to strategically deliver 18 wastebaskets, five (5) new whiteboards which were jointly executed with the University Management, and three (3) lecture podiums in the Faculty.
Comrade David stated, “We figured out that the state of the Faculty was in disarray. There was lots of anarchy going on, especially over the disposal of refuse. We swung into action and procured waste baskets for all the classrooms in the Faculty." He reiterated that the projects were birthed to facilitate effective learning of students of the Faculty averring that his administration remained committed to delivering its mandate and setting a high standard worthy of emulation.
Speaking further, the President noted that the executive, through the directive of the Dean of the Faculty, has set up a task force to monitor and sustain a high level of cleanliness and orderliness within the Faculty environment. He, therefore, implored the students of the Faculty to play their part by paying their dues regularly, adhering to the rules and regulations, and giving maximum support that would facilitate more projects.
“The job is not yet done, there are still a lot of things to do in the Faculty before we finish our tenure, but I know that with the cooperation of students, we will deliver more dividends. There is still room for improvement, so much room for improvement if you pay your dues, obey all the rules and regulations, and respect constituted authorities, he admonished.
In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. S.D. Musa, who was ably represented by his Deputy, Prof. Ibrahim Samuel, commended the efforts of the executive and charged the students to use all the facilities provided judiciously.
Contributing, Mr. Jide Okewoye, a representative from the Student Affairs Division, stated that members of the students executive of the Faculty have earned themselves the pathfinder title. He disclosed that the event was the first time he would witness students donating items like these to their University. Mr. Okewoye, therefore, congratulated the entire students of the Faculty, particularly the executive, for conceiving this laudable idea to support their Faculty.
Similarly, the Treasurer of the Association, Comrade Nafiu Abdulkareem further called on the next executive to be proactive and sensitize the students ahead on their civic responsibilities to the Association in order to deliver more effectively. Comrade Abdulkareem recognized that the current executive faced a lot of financial constraints, urging the next executive to be well prepared in sensitizing the students on their obligations to the Association toward the successful delivery of their mandate.
