About four (4) students of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), who are in 200 and 300 levels, were among those inducted into the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) yesterday, having passed the prescribed examinations earlier conducted by the Institute.
The Chartered Institute is a reputable professional body created by an Act of Parliament No. 15 on 1st September 1965 from existing accounting and auditing organisations to encourage professionalism in accountancy in Nigeria. It currently boasts of over 60,000 members.
The new inductees and students of FUL who participated in the ceremony included Olori Emmanuel Oluwatimilehim, Omosule Oluwatomiwa Eghosa, Pascal Olumide Ayo, and Abbah Benita George.
Recall that in November 2022, we reported that some 100 and 200L students of FUL sat for ICAN professional examinations and recorded about 95% success in their results across the two (2) levels, including some of those inducted newly.
Following the successful induction, the Head of the Department of Accountancy, Dr. Emmanuel E. Onoja, FCA, who disclosed the cheering news to the University Community, expressed great joy over the admirable feat attained by these young professionals at the early stage of their career.
He noted that his team was determined to add value and complement the efforts of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, whose vision from the outset was to churn out quality graduates and make FUL a world-class citadel of learning.
The Associate Professor added that they were more committed to producing global financial experts who know their onions, well recognized, and can contribute maximally to the advancement of the accounting profession in Nigeria and beyond. He described FUL as a one-stop station for the accounting profession committed to "moulding young mind to a global star."
Dr. Onoja, who worked round the clock along with others to ensure the students were adequately guided and prepared for the arduous exams, expressed gratitude to God and thanked the University Management for giving the needed support and providing the enabling environment for them to achieve this great feat.
