The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, has commissioned some newly acquired vehicles for the University for ease of transportation. The three (3) vehicles added to the fleet and unveiled on Tuesday at the main campus of the Institution include a Coaster bus, a Hilux van, and a Sienna.
In his remarks during the commissioning, the Vice-Chancellor expressed happiness over the arrival of the new vehicles, noting that they were a product of networking and collaboration with people outside the University. While assuring that more is being expected, Professor Akinwumi thanked his management team for their continued support and unwavering commitment to the development of the Institution.
The Vice-Chancellor, who said that all the vehicles had been fully paid for, announced that the Principal Officers Committee (POC) had decided to release the brand new coaster bus to convey staff from the College of Health Sciences, Adankolo to the main campus at Felele every day to ease their transportation challenges - this was greeted with jubilation from members of staff who graced the commissioning.
Professor Akinwumi maintained that his understanding of welfare goes beyond just sharing money, describing such a notion as a misconception. He reiterated that his intention for staff in terms of welfare was to open them to more opportunities and foster an enabling environment for their well-being, financial prosperity, and career growth through the various developmental initiatives that his administration has brought to the University since assumption of office which FUL has never witnessed since inception.
Speaking on behalf of other Principal Officers, the Registrar, Dr. Rebecca Aimiohu Okojie, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his forward-looking leadership style, commending his generosity of heart in using his network of friends and influence to attract meaningful development to the Institution.
Describing the VC as a good leader who is very passionate and committed to anything that brings development to the University, the Registrar acknowledged the selflessness and sacrifice of the Vice-Chancellor in his quest to make FUL a better place, adding that the VC was always on the road putting his life on the line, reaching out and following up with well-meaning Nigerians to accelerate the University's growth.
Similarly, the Branch Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Comrade Adedeji Kazeem Suarau, commended the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for their laudable and relentless efforts. The union leader, who could not hide his excitement, showered encomium on the administration, describing the Vice-Chancellor as “Mr. Talk and Do” and “Mr. Project.”
He seized the opportunity to also appreciate the University Management for the recent promotion of staff in the University, particularly his union members who benefited from the exercise, emphasizing that the outcome of the exercise surpassed their expectations greatly while praying for God’s protection and guidance for the Vice-Chancellor and his management team.
Prayers were offered by the Director of Academic Planning, Professor Hadi Suberu (Islamic prayer), while Mr. Philip Olajide, Principal Assistant Registrar in the Vice-Chancellor's office, offered the Christian prayer as well as a short address delivered by the Chief Driver, Mr. Gambo before the cutting of the tape.
