Sunday Eric Adewumi is Professor of Computer Science
at Federal University Lokoja. He earned a B. Sc. Degree in Computer Science
from the University of Ibadan in 1983. His interest in in information security
and data compression required that he takes higher degrees in Mathematics (Numerical
Analysis) to devise new algorithms for compression data and for securing data
under transmission. He earned an M.Sc Mathematics from the University of Jos in
2000 and a PhD from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi in
2005.
In 2005, he was awarded the distinguished Scholar for
outstanding Academic presentation by European Journal of Scientific
Research for his work entitled A New Text
Compression Algorithm.
He was at some point a visiting lecturer to the
National University of Rwanda where he taught the master’s degree students of
Computer Science of that University.He is also a visiting Professor to many universities in his home country, Nigeria.
He has assessed 29 candidates at professorial level in
Computer Science and has examined several B. Sc, M. Sc and PhD candidates both
within and outside the country.
His research and administrative experience
spanned well over three decades. He has been HOD and Director ICT at the University
of Jos and HOD, Dean of Faculty and Director of ICT at the Federal University Lokoja.
He presently on sabbatical at the Keele University, Staffordshire, United Kingdom where he is undertaking a research on Phishing Mails, due to be completed in December 2023.
He has worked for other organizations within and outside
the country including the United Nations as a Data Processing/Systems Analysis
Specialist in Somalia. He was at one time the Chairman of AVOIR (African Virtual Open
Initiative and Resources), a continental initiative based in South Africa
committed to the development of Free and Open Source (FOSS) in the continent of
Africa.
He is widely traveled and
has presented technical papers in many National and International
conferences/workshops and won best paper presenter in some of these
conferences. He was the recipient of the year 2000 Best Computer Programmer in
the Nigeria University Award, organized by National Universities Commission
(NUC). He earned the best paper presenter at the 4th International
Conference On Computer Design and Engineering in Dubai in 2014 on his work entitled
Character Analysis Scheme for compression
Text Files.
He is a Fellow and Life Member of Nigeria Computer
Society (FNCS), member of the Computer Professional Registration Council of
Nigeria (MCPN) and a Chartered Information Technology Professional.
