The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi has
inaugurated about 50 newly appointed officers as Deans, Directors, Heads of
Departments, Coordinators and Desk Officers.
Speaking during the inauguration which took place on
Monday, 19th April, 2021 at the Council Chamber, Adankolo Campus,
the Vice-Chancellor charged the new appointees to leverage on their network of
contacts to find ways of securing assistance for the University in addressing its
infrastructure deficit, and take advantage of the relationships they had built
over the years with older universities in Nigeria by studying their success
stories, replicate their models where necessary and adopt best practices in the
University System, in their new areas of assignment.
“The assignment before us is enormous and there is not
much time, but one thing is sure: with team work and dedication, no task is too
great, no accomplishment is too grand and no dream is too far-fetched,” the
Vice-Chancellor remarked.
Professor Akinwumi stated that the appointments were made
after a careful selection process and in line with his Vision Plan which he
unveiled during his inauguration as the 3rd Vice-Chancellor of the
University on 15th February, 2021, adding that the appointments were
based strictly on merit and propelled by his desire to run an all-inclusive
administration by bringing everyone on board in order to unify the community to
work together in achieving the common goal.
The Vice-Chancellor, who read out the key mandates of the
various positions, called for their support in building not just a University
that ranks highly amongst the top ten universities in Africa, but one that is
global and can compete favourably on the world stage.
While thanking them for the willingness to serve and
contribute their wealth of experience towards the development of the young
University, the Vice-Chancellor urged them to align their activities and
programmes with the Vision and Mission of the University, as well as the
developmental agenda and institutional reforms of his administration. He
assured them that the University Management was willing to support their initiatives
and programmes despite the limited resources available.
In their separate remarks, the Dean, School of
Postgraduate Studies, Professor Gbenga Ibileye and the Head, Department of
Computer Science, Professor Francisca O. Onaolapo who was earlier appointed as
Director, Quality Assurance, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for finding them
worthy of the new appointments.
Recall that the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi
Akinwumi had in March 2021, announced the appointments of Professor M. S. Audu and
Professor Hadi Suberu as Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Director of Academic
Planning respectively.
