In a heartfelt demonstration of gratitude and faith, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, marked his 61st birthday with a special thanksgiving service at the Chapel of Grace, Adankolo campus. Joined by the university community, the occasion highlighted the profound connection between wisdom and gratitude to God.

The service was centered on the theme “The Wisdom in Thanksgiving (Gratitude)” and anchored on Psalm 14:1-7. The Chaplain, Bishop Olukayode Ajibade, delivered a thought-provoking homily emphasizing the relationship between gratitude and wisdom. According to the Bishop, “The pursuit of God embodies wisdom, and those who earnestly seek Him are assured of a future.”

During a deeply moving moment in the service, Professor Akinwumi led the congregation in heartfelt worship, transitioning from one solemn hymn to another. He expressed his profound appreciation for God’s grace over the years, stating: “I am so glad that I have a Father in heaven. Reflecting on my journey, I am reminded that my birthday is not my death day. For this, I will always be grateful.”

His words resonated with the congregation, offering a powerful reminder of the importance of gratitude and humility in the face of life’s milestones. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Emmanuel Bala, commended the Vice-Chancellor’s exemplary leadership, stating: “Professor Akinwumi’s leadership reflects the wisdom highlighted today. His gratitude to God is evident in his dedication to humanity and the advancement of our institution.”

Similarly, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor M.S. Audu, described the Vice-Chancellor as an embodiment of worship and praise. He noted: “Professor Akinwumi is a devout leader who never hesitates to acknowledge God as his source of strength and guidance.”

Professor Obomy Bassey (Oboscolo), a long-time associate of the Vice-Chancellor, offered a personal reflection: “Having known Professor Akinwumi for many years, I can attest that his dedication to gratitude is unwavering. This Thanksgiving service is a true reflection of his character.”

The service also drew inspiration from biblical passages such as Luke 17:12-19 and Luke 7:1-10, underscoring that gratitude brings wholeness and completeness.
