No fewer than 150 Registry staff of the Federal University Lokoja participated in a one-day in-house capacity building and enhancement workshop organized by the Registry Department which was the second in the series of seminars instituted by the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Rebecca A. Okojie for staff development.

The Registrar barely clocked one month in office when she introduced the monthly Registry workshop with the first edition held in March 2022 but soon afterwards halted due to the national strike that lasted almost eight months.

During the opening ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Professor Abdullahi Emmanuel Bala, extolled the importance of the workshop and encouraged staff of the Registry Department to take advantage of the training to up their performance in their respective offices. 

The Registrar, who spoke extensively on the need to chart a new course for the Registry Department of the University, underscored the impact of such training opportunities on the career path and productivity of every administrative staff.

Dr. Okojie noted that the jobs of Registry staff revolve around minutes taking, reports writing, and other related tasks. She enjoined the staff to avoid distractions and stay focused to glean important lessons from the lecture, adding that promotions examination may not be far from the things taught at the workshop.

While delivering his lecture tagged 'Minutes Writing; Who Does it, and Why,' the Seminar Presenter, Mr. Femi Adeniyi, a Deputy Registrar and Secretary, College of Postgraduate Studies, schooled the participants extensively on the legal and administrative importance of taking and keeping official records as well as on the qualities and nature of good minutes.

One of the most thrilling moments at the workshop was when the two-time former Registrar (Salem University and University of Ilorin) and Senior Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Mr. E.D. Obafemi stole the show by presenting a well-captured summary of the lecture which attracted a loud ovation from participants.

Recall that the maiden edition of the Registry Human Capacity Building Series (RHCBS) on the topic “Conducting Effective and Efficient Meetings: The Critical Role of Administrators" was delivered by Mr. Obafemi who is a former Chairman, Association of Registrars of Nigerian Universities (ARNU).
